What Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Treatment Looks Like

Your first session functions as a comprehensive assessment. From there, the next 1 to 4 sessions are reserved for gathering your history, building an honest diagnostic picture, and identifying which part of CBT fits your specific presentation:

  • Cognitive restructuring, identifying and shifting the thought patterns that fuel anxiety, health anxiety, and depressive thinking

  • Exposure work, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD

  • Behavioral activation, used specifically for depression, rebuilding engagement with activity and routine as a direct treatment target

Once that groundwork is in place, treatment moves into active work: psychoeducation first, then the specific technique that fits what's being treated.

The Science of Neuroplasticity: How We Train the Brain

Objective Data, Not Observation

Your Brain Can Change-01.png

Psychological diagnosis often relies entirely on subjective observation. We take a different approach. Utilizing advanced qEEG brain mapping, we measure your exact brainwave activity to identify the biological root of your symptoms. By comparing your results against expansive normative database, we remove the guesswork and develop a highly precise, individualized treatment protocol.

Harnessing Neuroplasticity

The human brain is incredibly adaptable. Think of neural pathways like paths through a forest: the more a route is walked, the more entrenched it becomes. Over time, anxiety or attention deficits become deeply ingrained habits of the nervous system. Neurofeedback leverages neuroplasticity to introduce new, healthier routes. We provide your brain with the exact information it needs to reinforce and strengthen entirely new pathways.

Sustainable, Non-Pharmacological Change

In a culture that constantly demands immediate gratification and temporary symptom management, neurofeedback offers a different reality. It is a non-pharmacological approach that requires dedication. Because we are fundamentally retraining how your brain operates, it is not a quick fix. Results build gradually through consistent training, providing your nervous system with the foundation required for sustainable, long-term regulation.

Trauma and PTSD

For trauma that keeps the body on high alert long after the danger has passed, treatment may include Prolonged Exposure, a structured approach with strong research support for PTSD.

Anxiety

Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and health anxiety that keeps you scanning for what might go wrong, treated by working directly with the thought patterns and avoidance behaviors that keep it in place.

Depression

Treated through CBT using behavioral activation, a structured approach built around rebuilding meaningful engagement with the activities and routines depression tends to strip away.

We Prepare You for the Hard Stuff

For clients whose treatment includes exposure work: ERP is recommended in the American Psychiatric Association's practice guideline as having the strongest evidentiary support of any psychological treatment for OCD. For PTSD, the VA's National Center for PTSD recommends Prolonged Exposure as among the most effective treatments available.

Both work the same basic way: gradually approaching the thoughts, situations, or memories that have been avoided rather than avoiding them further. Before any of that starts, we work through cognitive restructuring together, so exposure doesn't feel like being thrown into the deep end. By the time clients get there, most feel ready for it, some even find they're looking forward to it.

Structured Evidence-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT for OCD, anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use in Roswell, Georgia, in person or virtual statewide.

What Makes This CBT Practice Different

Ashley has sought out specialized OCD and anxiety training throughout her career. That includes intensive training through the Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) for OCD and exposure and response prevention therapy. She also completed in-house training at a specialized treatment center in Seattle, where she received expert clinical supervision. She now brings that training to her practice in the greater Atlanta area.

That background includes direct experience with body-focused repetitive behaviors like hair pulling and skin picking, not just general familiarity with OCD as a category. It also shapes who this practice is built to work with: clients whose case is more complex, or who haven't found progress with previous therapy.

Specialized Expertise and Objective Data

We offer qEEG guided neurofeedback as a powerful, independent service. Trained in advanced brain mapping, Ashley utilizes New Mind technology to measure your exact brainwave activity, creating a precise training protocol tailored to your unique neurological baseline.

You do not need to be enrolled in therapy to benefit from this service. We simply provide a space where you have access to state of the art brain training, delivered by an experienced clinical expert who deeply understands the nervous system.

Where Understanding Isn't Enough

You can already trace where the anxiety spike comes from, or explain exactly why the intrusive thought showed up again, or describe in detail what the low mood is really about. None of that understanding has made it let go. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) works on that gap, built around the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behavior, so the specific technique shifts to fit what's being treated while the approach underneath it stays the same.

CBT is available for both adults and teens, including complex or long-standing cases and clients who've already tried therapy elsewhere without much traction.

For teens specifically, age range and family involvement are covered on the Children and Teens Therapy page.
